'Human-Centred AI Healthcare: From Values to Implementation'

On 31 March 2025, the symposium Human-Centred AI Healthcare: From Values to Implementation took place at Casa da Prelada, Porto, co-organised by Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS and the iNNOVSensing project consortium (CMU-FCT). The event gathered 37 attendees for a full day of dialogue on the intersection of artificial intelligence, healthcare, and value-sensitive design.

The Signo project played a central role in the programme, with five dedicated presentations highlighting its philosophical and design contributions to human-centred health technologies. These included:

  • M. Correia: Descriptive axiology and normative axiology in the philosophical analysis of artefacts
  • C. Pedro: Pragmatic pluralism and values in design
  • I. Afonso: Biopower and micropolitics—some readings on parameterization technologies and individual well-being
  • L. Ortolan: The individual perspective of pain based on values
  • R. Melo: Signo: Value systems in digital health technologies

The symposium offered a platform for interdisciplinary exchange, connecting philosophical inquiry with design research and technical development. Signo’s presence emphasised the importance of grounding digital health innovation in shared human values, from early design choices to implementation.
